Professional Development

Educated Providers Create Safer Births & Support.

At Beyond Birthing, professional development matters because the quality of care families receive is directly shaped by the people providing it. We are committed to supporting birth workers, educators, and care providers through ongoing education, skill-building, and reflection so they can show up informed, confident, and compassionate. By investing in professional growth, we strengthen advocacy, reduce birth-related trauma, and improve outcomes for families, knowing that when providers grow, our entire community benefits.

Keeping Your Power®: Advocacy Training for Doulas

The Keeping Your Power® Advocacy in Action workshop is a workshop for doulas and labor and delivery nurses to dive deeper into their advocacy identity and gain birthroom advocacy skills. This commitment will reduce trauma during labor and birth by keeping the person giving birth in the decision making process and keep their power while in a vulnerable place.

Join others who are making the same commitment to learn about themselves to be the best advocates in the birth room! This is an interactive, jam-packed two day workshop from 9-5.

Some of the topics covered in the workshop include:

  • Biases and why we think what we think can cause birth trauma

  • True responsibilities

  • Keeping Your Power®

  • Perspective, conversations w/ empathy and compassion

  • Advocacy birthroom scenarios and practice

Keeping Your Power®: Advocacy Training for Families

Keeping Your Power® for Families is a course designed for birth professionals to support parents in developing strong self advocacy skills. Through guided education with their doula or childbirth educator, families explore their values, learn how the birth system works, and practice advocating for themselves during prenatal appointments and labor.

Families are taught critical thinking skills to make informed, confident decisions about their care, helping reduce the risk of trauma. The course covers how to recognize red flags, communicate effectively with care providers, and stay actively involved in decision making. By encouraging families to take ownership of their beliefs and advocate for themselves first, this approach strengthens the role of the birth professional and allows doulas to support families more effectively in the birth space.
